Not only that but another
independent air quality specialist tested 20 various candles and found that 30%
of those had wire wicks containing lead. Not only are you at risk, but consider
your young children and babies. If they start inhaling dangerous chemicals at
such early ages, the future of their lung health is seriously at risk.
It’s
ironic to think that those of us buying candles to enhance are sense of
well-being may actually be poisoning ourselves and those around us. Candles
that aren’t encased in glass like votive candles are safer to inhale because
more air circulates around them.
As we know by now candles
shouldn’t be compared to essential oils. Some of them are made with essential oils, hopefully all the scented ones that you burn. Candles are a definite part
of aromatherapy treatment, but by no means the only one. With all the current
concerns regarding air quality, many aroma therapists are recommending using an
infuser when you want to scent your air.
There are some definite safety
guidelines we should all take to heart when we burn any type of candle.
They
are all common sense notions, but just to remind you we are listing them here:
- Don’t leave a burning candle in an unoccupied room
- Be sure to extinguish them before you leave your house or retire
for the night
- Keep them high enough so that children and pets can’t reach them
- All candles should be in or on some type of holder
- Keep the wick trimmed down to about one quarter inch
