Natural Moth Repellant

While we’re on the subject of pests, this might be a good time to tell you about keeping moths out of our closets and drawers. Most of us at one time or other have had moths eat holes in our favorite sweaters.

This can be a most dismaying discovery. Usually to counteract these little terrors we’d go out and buy some moth balls. We already know they smell terrible, but they are also highly toxic and we shouldn’t be breathing their fumes. For a healthier solution we offer an aromatherapy alternative.

Wool Moth Repellant

20 drops cedarwood

8 drops lavender

8 drops patchouli or sage

12 cotton balls

Application:

Combine the oils and put 3 or so drops on each cotton ball. Put them in a closed container for a few days. For an average sized box or storage container filled with clothing, add about six cotton balls. If you want them to be pretty you can pack the cotton balls in some pretty fabric and tie with a ribbon.

Other essential oils that moths hate are:

  • Camphor
  • Cedarwood
  • Lavender
  • Patchouli
  • Sage
  • Southernwood
  • Tansy
  • Wormwood

We are not responsible for any adverse reactions to these formulas. They were chosen at random from several websites and books.

Text Box: Tansy is oil with spiritual properties and the ability to help with pest prevention.
