The Pleasures of Safe Aromatherapy

Acne

People of all ages can suffer from skin problems. Young people going through puberty often suffer the embarrassing and troublesome acne (actually it can appear at any age). They are already self-conscious about their changing bodies, and when a broken out face is added to the equation, it can be most discouraging.

For generations doctors have tried to find a solution to this condition without a lot of success. In fact some oral medications they prescribe are so strong that they can cause very serious side-effects, including joint pain. A safe and natural treatment seems much more appropriate. Since so far acne can’t be cured it makes a lot of sense to at least try to control it in the most healthy and natural possible ways.

Acne is a condition stemming from problems with the sebaceous or oil glands, and hair follicles in the skin. These are inherited conditions, so if acne is in your gene make-up you are among the unlucky that will have to spend a lot of time trying to fight it. We will offer you some recipes using essential oils. Combined with the appropriate cleansing rituals (see previous page ) we wish you success.

There are some basic things that any person experiencing it should do. They need to keep their skin as clean as possible. Since there is extra oil present, using an astringent soap is a good idea. It isn’t recommended that you exfoliate or use something coarse to scrub the skin as it will only intensify the problem and may even spread it to less-affected areas. Steaming once or twice a week, is a good idea, on the other hand.

Some essential oils beneficial for acne are:

  • Clary sage
  • Eucalyptus
  • Juniper
  • Lavender
  • Neroli
  • Rosemary
  • Sage
  • Tea tree
  • Thyme
